Rosie Beckford

Travel Designer

Growing up in Spain and Cyprus when I was young sparked my interest and fascination with people, culture and language. I took this further in my studies of French and Spanish at University which allowed me to spend a year in Southern France and Peru. Ever since, I have always looked at the next opportunity to travel. The Middle East, North Africa and the Silk Route are particularly compelling regions to me as there is so much depth to them and so much to uncover. It is not every day that you find yourself in this part of the world, that is why our trips to these places are truly once in a lifetime experiences.

Travel is so important to me because it’s the best form of education – broadening horizons and understanding other cultures. Life would be dull without it!

Middle East

My most memorable trip

Oman

I will always treasure my trip to Oman - its landscapes are simply breathtaking. Above all, it was the people we met that made this such a special experience - Omanis are one of the most hospitable and kind people as well as being so proud of their heritage. It is so safe there that everyone leaves their houses and cars unlocked!

On my bucket list

Nepal

I am desperate to go to Nepal and Sikkim. I am a keen trekker and love being in nature so it would be a dream come true to walk among the snow capped peaks and the crisp blue skies, whilst enjoying some momos of course.

My favourite hotel

Alila Jabal Akhdar

The Alila in Jebel Akhdar, Oman is one of the most spectacular hotels I have stayed in and will ever stay in. The design of the hotel is tastefully built to make you feel totally immersed in the mountain surroundings - you may even be greeted by mountain goats along the ridge!

My top tips

Learning a few basic words in the local language will be greatly appreciated by locals and get you further than you think!

Having small change in your back pockets when in North Africa and the Middle East is always a good idea as tips will be expected for lots of services - no matter how small.

Make the most of your knowledgeable guides! They are a fountain of knowledge and have been hand-selected by us to give you the best possible experience.

When in Egypt and Jordan, pack a sun hat. A lot of the sites can be exposed and barren so it is important to protect yourself as much as possible from the strength of the sun.
